Good weather, great fun at charity golf tournment

Once again a good number of helpers turned out for the 11th Annual Kiwanis Charity Golf Tournament.  Fortunately the rain held off and the sun came out and we were ready to go.

We had 19 teams ready to play and over 20 wonderful sponsors supporting us again this year.  The prize table was bulging (as it always is) with some magnificent prizes.

We also had some wonderful auction items, including a beautiful sterling silver bracelet valued at over $300.

This year we had another playoff for the hole in one on the putting hole and the lucky winner got a $100 voucher for the Helm. The lucky recipients this year were:

  • McKenzie Centre
  • Western Bay Heritage Trust
  • St Johns in Morrinsville

We needed to raise $14,000 to accommodate the three charities.

It appears we have only managed to raise about $10,000 this year which is considerable down on previous years, mostly because of less sponsors and teams.

A special thank you to all the volunteers who helped on the day.   There is a lot of truth in the old adage, more hands make light work.

Helpers from Westside were Lou who sorted all the prizes and wrapped them as well as pulling the odd
pint or two behind the bar, Alec who was  busy with the golf cart delivering drinks to thirsty players and Rosalie who collected all the money from players, raffles and the auction items.
